FAQs

How does Juno make money?
We charge our partners a percentage of the loan amount our members borrow from lenders – it’s set before negotiations, so companies can’t sway us by offering more money. The partner is selected based on Juno's analysis with the objective of finding the partner that will offer the best rates to the group as a whole.

When you use our special link, you’ll get a discount from the lender, or other incentive such as a cash payment from Juno, which we’ve negotiated. We’ll receive the fee described above from our partner, which is calculated as a percentage of your final loan amount, but you’re always free to go directly to the partner’s site as well.

To clarify, we receive compensation from the financial services companies appearing on this page.

What is the disbursement timing?
Usually, the loan is disbursed right before the start of the semester, so if you needed one for the fall term, August.

We recommend coordinating with your financial aid office to ensure that the funds are disbursed at the time you would like them to be. The financial aid office communicates the disbursement dates to the lender.

Can I increase the loan amount later?
You will have to directly contact the lender to ask if the loan amount can be increased and they might require you to apply for a new loan. You may or may not get the same rates if a new credit check is required.

Does my income now influence the rates I would get for the loans?
When we release the deal and you apply with the lender, we recommend listing your income at that time that you can prove via pay stubs etc. If a cosigner is required, you may be asked to provide their income information as well. Different lenders treat income differently. Some may be affected by your income information and others will not.

When does interest begin accruing?
Interest usually begins accruing when the loan is disbursed to your school. Your university communicates the disbursement date(s) with lenders, and there can be multiple. As a result, you may want to check in with financial aid to see when the funds would be disbursed so that you know when your interest begins accruing.

If your school splits up the loan on a semester basis, which is common, then you would only begin accruing interest on the portion that is disbursed rather than the full amount. So if you took out $80,000 – $40,000 for the fall, and $40,000 for the spring, then you would only begin accruing interest on the first $40,000 in the fall when initially disbursed. When the latter portion is disbursed in the spring, you would then accrue interest on the full $80,000.

Our Journey

01
Started by two Harvard students...

We started Juno a few years ago when we were shopping around for loans for Harvard Business School. Since then, we’ve been immersed in the student loan industry, regularly speaking with key players nationwide.

02
Doing the research

This year, we ran an auction, making all lenders offer the best rates to our community. In the process, we pored over dozens of rate tables, and stayed up all night crunching spreadsheets to map out which lenders offered the most people the best rates.

03
Free for you

Since our members never pay us, we charge the selected lenders a set fee that is agreed before the negotiations begin. That way, we can’t be swayed by a larger financial incentive. The only way to win the auction is to offer our community the best rate.

04
Proven Track Record

Juno is the only organization that has successfully negotiated discounts for student loans on behalf of large, diverse groups of students. We’ve helped students borrow more than $2B+ at discounted rates. Over 296,000+ members have trusted Juno to negotiate more affordable student loans for them.

Who is this for?

This is for Kellogg students who plan to borrow to cover any portion of their cost of attendance not met by financial aid, scholarships, or personal savings. Juno is a smart alternative to federal Grad PLUS loans and even the Northwestern Loan for Kellogg Students (serviced via ECSI), offering access to exclusive private loan rates plus 1% cash back. That means more savings up front and over time.

Do I need a co-signer? What does that mean?

We do not expect graduate students to require a co-signer. However, we do expect graduate students with co-signers to be able to get better rates.

A co-signer is a person who is obligated to pay back the loan if you, the student, cannot make your payments. The co-signer can be a spouse, relative, parent or any adult that is a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

For international students as well as DACA recipients and Conditional Permanent Residents, having a U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident co-signer may make you eligible for a loan with a U.S. lender. Policies and requirements vary by lender.

How does this compare to federal loans?

The current rates for federal loans are 8.07% (Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan with a ~1% origination fee) and 9.07% (Grad PLUS loans with a ~4.2% origination fee).

In comparison, our lending partners do not charge any origination fees. We are expecting most Juno Members will receive interest rates that are substantially better when compared to the Grad PLUS loans.

You’ll also want to consider whether you’ll need perks offered by federal loans such as repayment protections, income-based repayment plans and forgiveness.

Lenders Compete

$2B+ of loans originated through Juno Partners

Kam, Wharton

2026

I appreciate that through Juno I got a much lower interest rate that takes into account my credit score / ability to repay rather than a blanket rate from the government. And the process was fairly seamless.

Matt, MIT

2021

The rate was almost half of the quotes I had gotten before

Jona, Harvard University

2020

I ended up getting a loan with 5% interest which to me means about $30,000 savings.

Rachel, University of Oregon Parent

2026

Juno was a life saver for our family! We have two kids in college and a third one next year and Juno helped us get loans that were a third of the cost of the rates that the school parent loans were, unbelievable!
